Washing and blocking Irish Crochet fabric

June 21, 2016

It is very important to take good care of your Irish Crochet Lace fabric. Here are few tips for you to remember:

Never wash your Irish crochet lace in a washing machine. Hand wash only. Also, never press it with an iron. Do not be shocked when your crochet item will shrink a little. It is normal. Just stretch it as you pin it to the styrofoam board (block it). If you never crochet Irish crochet lace before, make Irish crochet piece a little larger then pattern itself (add approximately ½ inch to all measurements).

Wash Irish Crochet Lace in look warm water, rinse well, and roll it in a bath towel squeezing the excess of water. Block your crochet piece (pin the it to the styrofoam board, stretching the edges). You will need a lot of pins in order to keep your work in a right shape, as shown in the pictures below.

Place pins as often as possible, approximately 1cm (1/2 inch) apart. Especially this is important when blocking cords, branches, and edges of the lace fabric.
